A Hidden Treasures of Italy Sampling of Rome Walking Tours…

Hidden Treasures works with many of Italy's finest private guides, covering almost any destination that might be of interest to you. Please find below a sampling of our current proposals for the Eternal City …

Private Walking Tours of Rome (courtesy of Stefano Sghinolfi, Roberto and Kathleen Scheda)

In Rome, Hidden Treasures works with a small team of very talented guides: Stefano Sghinolfi, who is specialized in the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica – a tour of about three hours; and Roberto and Kathleen Scheda, a well-respected art history professor and his daughter, who share a deep knowledge of and passion for the city of Rome. With them, we propose three private half-day walking tours based upon three different themes, as well as a full-day “Orientation Tour:”

Ancient Rome – A stroll through the Forum, entering the Curia (the original Roman Senate), the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine and Titus, the Palatine Hill, residence of the Emperors, and the Capitoline Hill. Visit the prison where St. Peter was confined. A true Roman morning with a true Roman guide.

Baroque Rome – This itinerary takes you to some of the unknown, as well as the most famous piazzas, fountains, and splendid churches of Rome, walking as the Romans do, through the medieval alleyways, to admire some of the most beautiful and characteristic spots in the Eternal City. Provides an in-depth insight into the splendors of Baroque architecture and its two major artists, Bernini and Borromini, ending in Piazza Navona to relax over a Roman gelato (or hot chocolate, depending on the season!).

Hidden Treasures of Rome – This walking tour highlights the period of early Christian Rome. Visiting the three-level church of San Clemente, and other paleochristian churches more than 1,000 years old. Walk along an ancient Roman street lined with the original houses, virtually unknown to most tourists, to the Circus Maximus where most of the Christians were martyred. The Aventine Hill, with its beautiful secluded gardens, churches, and breathtaking views, ending at the Mouth of Truth.

Rome Orientation Walk – This is an exciting full-day walk: starting at the Colosseum, walk through the Forum, reach the Trevi Fountain, then take less crowded routes to the Pantheon, the most intact ancient Roman building. A lunch stop, followed by Piazza Navona, admiring the spectacular baroque fountains, and strolling through a street lined with antique stores to reach the Tiber River, cross Bernini's bridge to Castel Sant'Angelo, ending in St. Peter's Square to visit the most spectacular of all churches.

In addition to Rome, Hidden Treasures can also arrange equivalent tours in Venice and Florence, as well, with its expert guides.
